How To Find Free Arrest Records Online

by Jed Elaine

Our society is based on a model of open access and accountability and these are much more then just expressions. Its probably best summed up in the way we uphold access to Public Records. Public Records are protected and regulated by law, the same laws that allow public access to these records, including public access to criminal records. These criminal records cover a range of topics, such as police arrest records, prison terms, convictions for sex offenders and even records of court appearances.

Not surprisingly, Free Arrest Records are the most frequently searched of these criminal records. The difference between Public Arrest Records and other public records is in the scope of information maintained in these Public Arrest Reports. These records are updated for a variety of reasons, such as detentions and actual arrests by law enforcement agencies, including military authorities, and can result from actual offences or simply from the suspicion of committing an offence. Records are added to even if no prison sentences result from these offences.

Public Arrest Records are open to the public and can be freely accessed, providing of course all relevant regulations are adhered to. Free Arrest Records are maintained by a number of government agencies, including Police departments and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Public Arrest Records can be obtained via mail, over the telephone or by a personal visit to the relevant authorities. More and more popular is accessing records online. Commercial information services are also able to provide Public Arrest Records.

The use of Free Arrest Records is governed by the applicable laws in each individual state. Accordingly, there are various laws regarding the access and use of these records, particularly with regard to sensitive matters or areas of public interest. Areas such as National Security or classified matters would be examples of records where access would be limited or restricted. Records concerning juveniles or high profile individuals such as celebrities or politicians might also be subject to restrictions. Apart from these exceptions, access to other records is more or less unrestricted.

The other side of the transparency coin is an individuals right to privacy. Asking a direct question regarding a persons Free Arrest Reports during a job interview for example, is forbidden by law. In other instances use of Public Arrest Records might result in little more than an embarrassment. Free Arrest Records search are a valuable tool when it comes to running background checks on many facets of our daily lives. Discreet checks into the backgrounds of our employees for example might save us from potential problems. The same applies to other areas such as child care, prospective spouse or in-laws, new tenants or neighbors, or simply people we have second thoughts about.

Free Public Arrest Records are extensive and include detailed information concerning the individual in question, such as physical characteristics, personal details and all arrest particulars including arresting agency, offence, warrant details and the location and date of the arrest. Other information contained in related records might include financial history such as liens or bankruptcies for example, tax offences or civil judgments.

There are two main versions of Public Arrest Records available. Free of charge and fee based. Free of charge records are mainly available from government agencies. Standard practice for commercial providers is to offer free searches, with payment for downloads or reports. Free of charge record searches are often complex and sometimes incomplete. Paid searches offer more extensive information and are the best option for any serious or legal requirements.

Free Illinois Arrest Records Search

by Jed Elaine

llinois criminal records are part of the public domain, entitling anyone to have access to these. Despite however being public records, the right to individual privacy is taken into account and the use of any information derived from these records is the subject of stringent laws and regulations. Using the information obtained for conducting a background check for employment purposes for example, would require prior consent from the person involved.

The first stop for any search of Illinois arrest records would be the Illinois State Police where information relating to all criminal matters is held.Any search there however, will involve payment of a non-refundable fee of $16.00. Apart from the State Police, you could also try one of the state Circuit Courts. A database is also held at Jackson County where searches can be conducted after payment of a $12.95 fee.

Any criminal database maintained by a law enforcement agency is required to be up to date and maintained to a satisfactory level. Law enforcement agencies tend to share information, so these records can be disbursed to a wide range of agencies. Often, courts and even certain individuals will also be granted access. Quarterly, monthly or even daily information updates are carried out by the database operators. Obviously a regularly updated and well maintained database will result in more accurate arrest records information being available.

As far as Illinois criminal records are concerned, statistics in recent years would indicate that the state arrest rate has been above the national rate. In spite of this however, the state has shown an overall reduction in the number of arrests. In 1990, 1237 arrests were made per 100,000 of the population. By 2002, this figure had fallen to 894 arrests per 100,000 of the population. This translates to an approximate 28% reduction in the number of arrests being made over the 12 year period.

Similarly to almost all information searches today, the internet is the most popular method to access Illinois criminal records. Government agencies inevitably mean long queues and time delays. An alternative to these delays are commercial information providers. Factor in the ability to access private networks over and above the public databases and these commercial providers soon become an attractive option. Search results are typically available for download within a few minutes of running the search

Search Background Checks

by Ben Dave

Background Checks are typically conducted discreetly. By that token, it is sneaky to some degree. How people view the use of background checks to obtain information about someone is a rather individual thing and can vary quite a bit from one person to another. However, there is no denying that this practice is on the uptrend both in business and private.

There are various instances under which background checking has become a standard procedure and effectively accepted as a part of life. Employers, credit officers, landlords, lawyers, business partners and even prospective in-laws are always going to be running people's background checks. What employers typically look for is to verify the qualifications, experience and licenses of the incumbent as stated in the CV or job interview, Negligent Hiring being the big issue that it has become in human resource operation. Credit or loan officers would be interested to get some idea of the applicant's payment behavior from his background history. Landlords look out for criminal records so as not to place their property in the hands of bad hats. Lawyers often refer to background checks for information, or ammunition rather, to smear their opponents. Business partners use background checks to determine if they are falling to cheats or crooks. In social or private context, background checks are a protective measure from getting mixed up with potentially bad elements.

The most common purpose of the background check has to be employment background checks, or more specifically pre employment background checks. In most cases, it is basically a matter of cross-checking the information submitted or gathered through write-in applications, job interviews and meetings.

It is also a good idea to conduct a self background check on yourself periodically. By doing this, we can achieve a few things. Firstly, we keep tabs of how we stack up in terms of records. Secondly, we make sure that the records are accurate and that we are not shortchanged. Last but not least, we guard against identity theft.

Anyway, except for special or very private information, everybody's records are out there. Whether you personally subscribe to the practice of background checking or not, it will continue to propagate.
